R2's Adventures

R2 was invited to visit the Dripping Springs Elementary School and the Rooster Springs Elementary School to talk Robotics and Coding during the Hour of Code week. We talked to over 1000 kids. It was one of the coolest things R2 and I have gotten to do.

Wizard World Comic Con was the second official group outing for the Central Texas Droid Builders club.  We had a great time and I believe that we inspired others to start their builds.  It was also the first time, I got to work with Chris Bartlett as C-3P0. He is amazing and it was so cool to get to work with him. I hope we can do it again sometime.

Saturday was spent talking droid building at the Round Rock Mini Maker Faire. This was the first event for the newly formed Central Texas Droid Builders club. Jeremy, Jason and Zac helped out to man the table and show off some of their parts and build status. I think we are going to have a great group of builders. I can't wait to have a build day.

San Antonio got its very own Lego Store (we've had one in Austin for some time), so R2 got invited to attend the event. It was super packed... I couldn't believe how many people showed up. They had their master builders there building an 8 ft tall R2-D2 out of Legos. They had so many people there, they had to limit the people going into the Lego store. Thanks to Matt for the great goodie bags for attending. My son and I really liked them.

It's hard to believe that it's been 30 years since I first say Return of the Jedi... But seeing it on the big screen once again was a great treat... made me feel young again, until about 12:30 AM, then my age started to come back and I was feeling really old at 3:30 AM when I got home... But we had a good time (me and R2) we were at the Slaughter location Alamo Drafthouse and I couldn't believe the amount of people that turned out for the event. They had like 5 screens and all were sold out. I had fun interacting with the folks and having R2 dance with the kids.  R2 even found a girlfriend.

R2 and I had a great time at the first Texas Toy and Comic Expo in San Marcos, Texas on Sat, May 4th and 5th. Got to meet some Walking Dead stars (Michael Rooker, IronE Singleton, Noel G. and Addy Miller.) Also got to meet Eddie Munster (Butch Patrick).  Got me thinking that I don't think my kids have really seen any of the old black and white Munster episodes. Thanks to Tim Gardner for inviting us out to the Con. It was fun. Looking forward to next year.

Alex, R2 and I attended a fun Lego Star Wars build day at the Lego Store in Barton Creek mall. I is always fun to go to the Lego store, since Alex and I are huge Lego fans. Members of the 501st and the Rebel Legion were also in attendance. After that, we decided to go down and check out the grand openning of the new Apple Store. At first they really liked having R2 stop by to promote their opening. But then their "Geniuses" got distracted and they asked us to leave. Nicely, but they did ask us to move along, move along.

Screenwriter Ernie Cline and members of the 501st were on hand at the Alamo Drafthouse for a special screening of the movie FANBOYS benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

This was a first for R2, to be in a wedding. It was actually a re-wedding of some dear friends. Phil and Sarah Tso.  Phil troops with the 501st and does a ton of events. I don't think I know anyone else that has as many costumes as Phil.

I said I would never do another parade with R2, but I couldn't resist taking part in the annual Chuy's Children Parade. They collect toys for children for Christmas.  I had never seen or been in this parade before. It was huge. The worst thing about it was getting back to the car after the parade. It was pretty cool and it was televised locally.  We had a big group of guys from the 501st and the Rebel legion there.
